21 government efficiency employees resigned collectively, accusing Musk of destroying public systems

①21 staff members of the “Ministry of Government Efficiency” resigned, saying in their letter that they refused to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services”;
② Musk called the report “fake news” and referred to the resignation as “Democratic political diehards who are unwilling to return to office.”

Cailian News, February 26 (Editor Zhao Hao)According to multiple media reports, on Tuesday (February 25) local time, 21 staff members of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) resigned and said in a letter that they refused to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

The letter, sent to White House chief of staff Susan Wiles, read,”We have sworn to serve the American people, uphold our commitment to the Constitution, and are willing to fulfill this responsibility in every administration.” However, it is now clear that we cannot continue to fulfill our commitments at DOGE.”

It should be pointed out that the titles of the 21 DOGE staff members in the letter are “Office of Digital Services”(USDS) employees-US President Trump did not establish a new Department of Government Efficiency when he took office, but instead established the information technology department established by the Obama administration. USDS was reorganized and renamed DOGE.

The letter wrote,

On January 21, we held a 15-minute interview with people wearing White House visitor badges. Some people refused to reveal their identities and asked questions about political loyalty in an attempt to provoke confrontation among colleagues. Their technical capabilities are limited, and this process poses a significant security risk.

On February 14, one-third of our USDS colleagues were dismissed indiscriminately via anonymous email. Their departures endanger millions of Americans who rely on government services. The sudden loss of technical expertise has made critical systems and American data more insecure.

On February 16, DOGE representatives began incorporating us into their work, firing technical experts, improperly handling sensitive data, and damaging critical systems-actions that were inconsistent with their mission and our mission in joining the USDS.

Reported that the resigned employees also warned that many of the people Elon Musk recruited were “political ideologues” and did not have the skills or experience needed to complete the task of “reducing the size of the federal government.”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt hit back on the collective resignations in a statement, saying that “President Trump will not abandon his promises because of protests, litigation and legal battles” and urged them to “go quickly.”

Musk posted on social media that the report was “fake news.” He added that the staff were “Democratic political diehards who were unwilling to return to office” and “would be fired if they did not resign.”

Earlier this month, DOGE engineer Jonathan Kamens, who was laid off, told reporters that the reason for his dismissal was likely because of his public support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Kamens said,”The U.S. Office of Digital Services has spent more than a decade getting the government to better serve ordinary people, but Elon Musk doesn’t care about that. He only cares about seizing power and making his wealth richer.”

On Tuesday, the White House confirmed Amy Gleason as acting director of DOGE. Media analysts said the move seemed to be an attempt to downplay Musk’s role in the agency.

Although DOGE’s layoffs have the support of Musk and his team, the White House insists Musk is only promoting the measures as a senior adviser to Trump, rather than providing advice as a DOGE employee.
