Cailian News, February 11 (Editor Xia Junxiong)A new poll shows that more than half of American adults say they approve of President Donald Trump’s performance at work during his first month in office.
The survey was conducted by Colombia News Channel and YouGov survey company from Wednesday to Friday and sampled a total of 2175 adults with a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
Trump officially took office as President of the United States on the 20th of last month. The above poll shows that Americans ‘support rate for Trump’s work performance in the three weeks since he took office is 53%.
Although Trump is enjoying a typical post-election honeymoon period, many respondents remain concerned that he is not doing enough to reduce inflation. In addition, an overwhelming majority opposed his plan to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and Europe.
Polls show that up to two-thirds of Americans believe the Trump administration does not pay enough attention to inflation, including nearly half of Republican respondents.
On immigration issues, 59% of respondents supported Trump’s plan to repatriate illegal immigrants, while half opposed his plan to detain illegal immigrants in large detention centers.
Trump received 54% support for his handling of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, but 47% believed that Trump’s idea of having the United States take over the Gaza Strip was a “bad idea.”
The survey also found that half of Americans believe Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team should have “much” or “some” influence on government operations and spending. Among Republicans, this proportion is as high as 74%.
Usually, presidents enjoy high approval ratings when they first take office because the American people tend to give new leaders a certain period of trust. However, as time goes by, approval rates often change.
Former President Biden received 57% approval rating in February 2021; Obama’s approval rating in January 2009 was 66%; and Bush’s approval rating in February 2001 was 59%.
By contrast, Trump opened his first term in January 2017 with a 44% approval rating, the lowest early presidential approval rating in relevant polls in at least 70 years.
