Cailian News, February 8 (Editor Xia Junxiong)On Friday (February 7) local time, U.S. President Trump said that China’s artificial intelligence (AI) model DeepSeek will not pose a threat to U.S. national security. On the contrary, the United States can benefit from DeepSeek’s innovation.

Trump met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House on Friday and held a press conference.

When asked whether DeepSeek posed a threat to U.S. national security, Trump replied: “No, DeepSeek does not pose a national security threat.”

“This is a technology that’s happening… if it’s right, I think we’ll benefit from it… It’ll significantly reduce costs,” Trump said.

DeepSeek, headquartered in Hangzhou, China, released the DeepSeek-V3 model at the end of December last year. Its development time is said to have taken only two months, and the training cost is less than US$6 million, far lower than its American counterparts.

DeepSeek released the inference model DeepSeek-R1 last month, which is comparable in capabilities to the inference model o1 of the leading AI company OpenAI.

The emergence of DeepSeek caused a huge shock in the U.S. stock market. U.S. technology stocks lost as much as US$1 trillion in market value on January 27. Among them, AI chip leader Nvidia lost nearly US$600 billion in market value that day.

DeepSeek’s excellent performance and low cost have caused investors to question whether the cost of developing a large AI model is as high as previously expected by the market, which is the reason why Nvidia’s market value has soared to more than $3 trillion in the past two years.

After the rise of DeepSeek, American politicians repeated the same trick and began to exaggerate DeepSeek’s threat to its national security.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives from both parties have introduced bills to ban the installation of DeepSeek’s AI applications on federal government devices. The United States has previously introduced a similar ban on the Short Video application TikTok.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously stated

In addition to the United States, Italy, Australia, India, South Korea and Japan have also reported bans or restrictions on the use of DeepSeek.

In response to some countries ‘bans and restrictions on the use of DeepSeek, China Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on February 6 that the China government attaches great importance to and protects data privacy and security in accordance with the law, and has never and will not require companies or individuals to collect or store data in illegal forms. China has always opposed the practice of generalizing the concept of national security and politicizing economic, trade and scientific and technological issues. At the same time, China will also firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of China enterprises.
