Financial Union, March 5 (Editor Niu Zhanlin)On Tuesday, local time, Ukraine President Zelensky said he regretted that last week’s meeting with US President Trump “did not go as expected.” Now Ukraine is ready to sign minerals and security agreements in any convenient form and is ready to negotiate an end to the conflict.

Zelensky posted on social media: “I want to reiterate Ukraine’s commitment to peace. None of us want endless war. Ukraine is ready to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve lasting peace. No one wants peace more than the people of Ukraine, and my team and I are ready to work to achieve lasting peace under the strong leadership of Trump.”

Last week’s meeting between Zelensky and Trump eventually turned into a bitter conflict, with Trump accusing Zelensky of “betting on World War III” in a meeting that was supposed to reset U.S. -Ukraine relations. The two leaders did not sign a proposed minerals deal as planned and canceled a scheduled joint news conference.

Trump posted on social media: “Zelensky disrespects the United States of America in the sacred Oval Office of the United States. He can come again when he is ready for peace.”

In response, Zelensky responded on Tuesday: “Our meeting at the White House last Friday did not go as expected. It is regrettable that this happened. But it’s time to do things right, and we hope that future cooperation and communication will be constructive.”

Western leaders hope the statement will somewhat ease relations between Ukraine and the United States, but the disastrous Oval Office meeting highlighted rifts and differences between the two countries.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is ready to sign a minerals agreement. “Regarding the minerals and security agreement, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient form. We see this agreement as a step towards security and solid security guarantees, and I sincerely hope it will work effectively.”

He also rarely directly proposed a possible ceasefire implementation plan. Zelensky said: “We are ready to end the war quickly. The first stage may be the release of prisoners and an air ceasefire, which prohibits missiles, long-range drones on energy and other bombing of civilian infrastructure. If Russia agrees to do so, there will be an immediate ceasefire at sea.” “Then we hope to move quickly through all the next stages and work with the United States to reach a strong final agreement.”

The framework is similar to the plan proposed by French President Macron on Sunday after a summit of Western leaders. The summit comes at a time when continental Europe is anxious about the future of Ukraine.

Zelensky added: “We attach great importance to the efforts of the United States to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty. We still remember the moment when President Trump provided Ukraine with javelin anti-tank missiles, and we are grateful for this.”

It remains to be seen how Trump will respond to the Ukraine leader’s proposal and how he feels about the White House trip. But the lengthy statement suggested that Ukraine was trying to get involved after the Trump administration opened talks with Russia last month and refused to invite Ukraine.

Trump on Monday ordered a suspension of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, which could have a serious impact on the country’s combat capabilities. A U.S. official said the United States has stopped funding the supply of new weapons to Ukraine and is considering freezing the delivery of weapons from U.S. stockpiles to Ukraine until Zelensky commits to seek peace talks.
