Banco Nacional (BN), Costa Rica’s largest commercial bank, and its investment management arm BN Fondos, are launching the first spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), marking the first time Costa Ricans have access to crypto investment products through the country’s banking system. Although Costa Rica has no formal cryptocurrency laws, under the country’s Constitution and civil law, any activity that is not explicitly prohibited is allowed, so Costa Ricans can legally trade and own cryptocurrencies.
