The Ethereum Foundation and core developers decided to launch a shadow fork on the Holesky testnet to deal with network failures that occurred during Pectra’s upgrade testing and avoid upgrades being postponed. Holesky suffered a severe interruption in Pectra testing on February 24 and is not expected to resume until the end of March, causing some research and optimization work to be delayed. The failure was not related to Pectra itself, but was caused by a critical client software configuration issue. In the end, the community basically reached a consensus to maintain the shadow fork in the short term to advance Pectra testing, while Holesky may continue to serve as a test net for future Fusaka upgrades.
