According to people familiar with the matter, Dell will sell AI servers including the NVIDIA GB200 to xAI and will deliver them this year. It is reported that the deal has entered an advanced stage of negotiation, some details are being finalized, and changes may still occur in the end.

Dell is one of the world’s largest technology companies by annual revenue, selling everything from personal computers to data storage arrays to IT services and software. Because Nvidia’s graphics processing units (GPUs) require dedicated processors equipped with high-performance memory and other key components, the AI boom in recent years has particularly benefited Dell’s server business.

Against the background of an industry where demand for AI computing power is booming, the performance of high-performance server manufacturers such as Dell, Ultramicro Computer and HP continues to strengthen, and this large order may reshape the competitive landscape of the industry. At the same time, Tesla and xAI within Musk’s commercial landscape have now become important purchasers of high-end servers.

Grok, the main product of xAI, is currently mainly open to paying users on the X social platform. It is worth noting that Musk’s companies are known for sharing employee, technical and computing resources. This synergy may further amplify the scale of hardware purchases.

The Colossus supercomputer project that xAI is building in Memphis, Tennessee, will accommodate at least 1 million GPUs and already uses server equipment from Dell and Ultracomputer.

In December last year, Dell disclosed that it had deployed tens of thousands of GPUs in the project and was committed to gaining a majority of the remaining projects. Processors such as GPUs are the core chips that drive AI computing, and Nvidia occupies an absolute leading position in this field.

Just last month, HP won a contract worth more than $1 billion to provide Musk’s X with servers optimized for AI tasks. Compared with Dell and Ultramicro Computers, HP’s AI server business is currently lagging behind.

Industry analysts predict that Dell AI server sales have exceeded $10 billion in the fiscal year ending last month, and are expected to jump to $14 billion in the new fiscal year ending in January 2026. The company is scheduled to release its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report on February 27, and the AI server business line is expected to become the focus of investors ‘attention.
